ECOHOUSES

Have we ever wondered that in around  8.7 million species in the natural world, what makes human beings so unique?

How we have been able to adapt in any condition?

The most appropriate answer to these questions is that humans can manipulate the world according to their needs.

As Franklin Foer quoted “Since the beginning of human evolution, we have been merging with tools, and arguably, that is one of the things that make us human beings”.

We have always focused on the development of shelter and food.

But as we know along with development, there comes harm to nature or surroundings.

Man’s inevitable desire contributed to this.

 It started altering nature.

The concept of ECO HOUSES came as a solution.

The first intentionally ecological house was constructed by Street Farm in 1972 in Eltham, London.

This was designed by Graham Caine.

The first modern ecohouse was constructed in Masdar, Abu Dhabi.

The ecological houses’ objective was to create an autonomous house that exploited reused materials and alternative technology and harnessed microgeneration.

By definition, an ecohouse is an environmentally low-impact home designed and built using materials and technology that reduces its carbon footprint and lowers energy needs.

The concept of an ecohouse means a dwelling that has a low impact on the environment.

This includes glass that has two or three layers with a vacuum in between to prevent loss.

Geothermal heating and the use of solar panels make it more special.

Increasing the amount of insulation is the main component of preventing energy loss.

This includes draft exclusion, glazing wall, and roof insulation.

The ecohouse concept includes insulation, passive solar gain, active solar gain, living gain, heat recovery ventilation, and sustainable materials like timber, lime reclaimed materials like slates, and roof tile.

The construction of these houses refers to application processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building’s lifecycle; from planning to design, construction, operation, maintenance, renovation, and demolition.

Orientation of the house towards the sun ensures flooding of sunlight into the house and any heat generated is retained by a highly insulated building shell, draught-proof windows and doors, and thermal mass within the building.

Ecohouses are the future of buildings and that is for sure.

Most countries now are adopting the eco-house concepts and other countries are on their way to join the flock too.

They are energy efficient and have high ROI rates.

Ecohouses may be more expensive than traditional ones as the materials are costly.

Ecohouses have become the need of the hour due to increasing pollution and depletion of resources.

So being a responsible species of Mother Earth, it is our responsibility to take care of our Earth.

So, if human beings are gifted with minds to think, we must ponder upon maintaining the balance between Nature and sustainable living.

So being a responsible species of the Mother Earth, it is our responsibility to take care of our Earth.
